Isaiah Marshall Nemeth
Isaiah is our Canadian! He was born here in Alberta last spring, on my spiritual birthday. He is our sweet, gentle-spirited yet macho (i.e. “Bam Bam”) son. Months before I ever conceived, I had a thought…”is it time for my Isaiah yet?” This was even before we found out my cousin was having a boy they named Isaiah. Well, when you choose a biblical name, you’re bound to find a repeat somewhere! By the way, if you haven’t read the book of Isaiah in awhile, go ahead; you’ll get a fresh glimpse of an awesome, powerful, tender and affectionate God.
His middle name is my maiden name. I am already seeing the happy, laid-back demeanor I remember from my grandfather, and the love of animals he gets from my dad.
Our son is also named Marshall after a good friend of ours, a great man of God in northern Michigan who loves His Lord Jesus and serves Him with all he has. He and his wife raised 8 children in a single-wide trailer in the country, supported partially by the church he pastored and also by his gift shop where he sells Petoskey stones. He and his wife make amazing music together for the Lord, and they have been blessed with over 50 grandchildren. They are the kind of people you want to be around just so that their Christ-likeness might rub off on you.
When I was pregnant with Isaiah, I was extremely depressed for quite a while. Sometime between the end of the first trimester and the “quickening” (feeling baby’s first movements), I went out for a night to be alone. I remember seeing the soft light of the clouds reflecting the sun as it set, and the beauty of that light was such a shot of joy in the midst of my despair. I knew then that my baby’s call was “Light Bearer”, that my child would shine the light of Christ. And it wouldn’t be a glaring, piercing light as much as the glow of beauty those sunset clouds gave. Ever since his difficult birth, Isaiah has been a joy. He is almost always happy. I praise the Lord for bringing me through to bring him into the world.
Isaiah has been on the baby fast-track since day 1. He started at 10 ½ lbs and shot right up to 25 by 7 months. His first tooth was at 5 months (by contrast, Elliot’s first tooth was 13 months). By 8 months he had 6 teeth, eating everything in sight, and was wearing size 2 clothes. Now at 9 months he’s walking all over the house, learning the fun of throwing, drumming, and coloring with Erica, and doing his best to keep up with the big kids in every other way.
