Erica Loris Nemeth
Erica, our princess, was born during an early spring thunderstorm, bringing rains that pounded recently fallen snow. She is named Erica because it means “honorable ruler”. Her middle name is after an incredible woman of God, Loris, who lives in southwest Louisiana. She is a member of Koasati (Coushatta) Nation, in the heart of “Cajun country”, a beautiful land of long-needled pines, gorgeous blue skies, rattlesnakes, crawfish, ‘gators “tastes like chicken”, and warm, humid spring weather, when I used to go on mission trips from college, and sing and play my heart out with some beautiful people. Loris first made an impression on me because she worked in a computer lab, and she sat me down in front of one of those mind-boggling beasts. (Boy do I feel old, being able to remember “life before computers”.) I remember thinking, that’s so nice that she would show me this new thing. Loris is a quiet person with a quick and radiant smile. She loves the Lord Jesus and lives a life that proves it. She has a deep faith in the Lord, and serves Him in a quiet way that shows deep strength.
It is our prayer for Erica that she grow to be a strong servant-leader, setting an example of honor with actions rather than words.
The day I confirmed my suspected pregnancy and told Jeff (Father’s Day), we sat in a church where we were visiting for deputation. The pastor spoke on Jesus’ parable of the mustard seed, the smallest of all seeds that grew into a huge tree with life-giving branches. He said, “A kingdom rebuilder is a life-giver”. That stuck with me, and from then on I knew that my child was a “life-giver”. Jeff was convinced we were having a girl (again, his intuition was correct!). While I don’t want to assume that God will give my daughter children, I know He will use her to grant life, in some way, if she follows Him.
Erica is our black-leather-jacket and hot-pink attitude girl. She is sassy yet sweet. She is a tough cookie that likes to wrestle her brother, yet she is a princess who loves sparkles, anything pink or purple, pretty things, and dressing up. She loves all her girl friends, young and not-so-young, and loves to make up songs about Jesus. She is our little pickle, full of passion (you can see that in her coloring pages). She works hard, produces hundreds of drawings a week, and gives huge bear hugs.
